What changed in each release

Every entry here is a build you can download. Nothing is announced before it ships. The app offers you each new build itself, once a day.

    BetterEdits 0.8.0 (build 30)
    September 25, 2026
    Windows and sessions
    • NewSeveral videos open at once, each in a window of its own. The workspace window stays where it is when a video opens, comes back when the last video window closes, and the Window menu lists every window. Windows that were up come back at the next launch.
    • NewAgents work in the background. A video an agent opens has no window until the agent shows it or you click its card; the card says who is working on it, what is exporting, and what was exported. Each agent session has a current video of its own, so two agents can cut two videos at once, and any tool can act on another video by name.
    • NewExport… in a video card's menu renders the video in the background with the export sheet's defaults; the card shows the progress, then Reveal Export in Finder.
    • NewImport Video Folder… (⌘O), or a video's folder dropped on the workspace window, brings a video in from another workspace. A video is its folder and nothing else.
    • Improved⌘W closes one window and nothing else; the video was saved after its last change. Closing the workspace or quitting asks only when an export is still running.
    • ImprovedFor agents: project-open makes a video theirs without touching your windows, --show or app-show puts a window on it, project-close lets go, status says whether their video is shown, and projects says how every video stands.
    • FixedThe .be single-file project is gone, with Save a Copy As…, Import Project File…, loose projects and the recovery autosave.

    Cards and thumbnails
    • ImprovedThe workspace's video cards are centred in their slot, name and details centred under the picture.
    • FixedA video's thumbnail is rendered again when the video opens, so one made before the HDR fix no longer stays overexposed until you edit the video.
  3. BetterEdits app icon
    BetterEdits 0.7.4 (build 28)
    September 25, 2026
    Tint and adjustment layers
    • NewTint, the white balance's green to magenta axis, beside Warmth; and two more filters, Warm and Cool.
    • NewAdjustment layers by name: Add Adjustment Layer in the Add Track menu makes one, and a filter clip on it colours every track beneath.
    • ImprovedThe workspace's video cards are one square slot each, the picture inside at the video's own shape, so a 16:9 video is no longer a card twice as wide.
  4. BetterEdits app icon
    BetterEdits 0.7.3 (build 27)
    September 24, 2026
    Filters
    • NewFilters on a clip: Mono, Noir and an intensity, and nine adjustments (brightness, contrast, saturation, warmth, highlights, shadows, fade, sharpen, vignette), live as you drag. Apply one to a whole track, or copy it between clips.
    • NewFilter tracks: a filter clip colours every track beneath it for as long as it lasts, with a ramp in and out. Captions and text keep their colour. Add Filter (⇧⌘F) makes the first one.
    • NewAgents set the same filters through the document, check them with screen and measure, and read guide filters.
    • FixedExports, frames and thumbnails of HDR footage in standard range were overexposed; they now match what QuickTime shows of the file.
    • ImprovedThe workspace's video cards are each video's shape: a 16:9 video is a wide card, not a slice of a tall one.

    BetterEdits 0.7.2 (build 26)
    September 24, 2026
    Checks by tool call
    • NewYour agent can render a graphic by itself, with no video open, to transparent PNGs at any moments (graphics-frames), so a style is designed and approved before a video is touched.
    • NewA guide for agents who think in CSS: every part of a graphic beside the CSS it corresponds to, and every built-in motion written out as keyframes.
    • NewMeasure a frame instead of guessing from a picture: the luma inside a box, what is behind a graphic, the contrast of its type, and whether a dim reaches the edge (measure). Frames and contact sheets are written to disk too, from the app's render, the export pipeline or the viewer on screen.
    • NewThe person's face is found in the frame as it is framed, so type is kept off it, instead of an estimate from the analysis.
    • NewDrafts: several agents can each build graphics on a draft layer that shows in the viewer and in every still but never in the export, then keep or drop it in one step.
    • ImprovedA graphic can be timed on words ("when he says solved") and follow the footage from there; a cut the footage carries straight through no longer marks the graphic as broken, and a caption whose last word was trimmed is clamped instead.
    • ImprovedTool answers are short by default, every warning carries a code an agent can filter or accept, and a preview shows a graphic where it will really sit, in the real track order.
    • FixedA scrim or gradient now reaches the edge it is declared to; it stopped a few pixels short before.
    • FixedA graphic written over with the same length shows its new design at once in the viewer.
  6. BetterEdits app icon
    BetterEdits 0.7.1 (build 25)
    September 23, 2026
    Graphics as designed
    • FixedShadows in generated graphics are drawn as designed: a text style's shadows show, every shadow is soft and unclipped, and a card's shadow no longer cuts off at its edge.
    • FixedDims, scrims and gradients read as written: a 55% dim is 55%, and a gradient fades to clear without a band or an edge.
    • FixedType in a graphic is never cut at its line, and a caption bar that wraps to two lines grows upward instead of overlapping what is under it.
    • NewA takeover graphic hides the captions under it, in the viewer and in the export, so the words are on screen once.
    • NewYour agent can ask what is on the canvas at any second (screen): every graphic, caption and text as a box, what overlaps, and where the person is.
    • ImprovedLint names two graphics on one spot, a graphic over a caption bar, and the same words shown twice.
    • ImprovedPlayback with many graphics is lighter: shadows and text are drawn once and cached, and the renderer is safe to share between the viewer and an export.
  7. BetterEdits app icon
    BetterEdits 0.7.0 (build 24)
    September 23, 2026
    Graphics the app draws itself
    • NewGenerated graphics are drawn by the app on every frame, in the viewer and in the export alike. Your agent writes each as a scene (rects, text, pictures, paths, with motions from one look for the whole video) instead of a page of HTML, so there is no render to wait for, nothing goes stale, and type, gradients and dims are as clean as the frame at any size.
    • NewFootage inside a graphic is the real thing: a frame of a take, a take playing, or the cut itself, drawn from the files, HDR kept.
    • NewThe agent can look before it makes: graphics-preview returns where every element and every word lands, what happens when, warnings, and pictures over the checkerboard, over the timeline and as a wireframe.
    • ImprovedThe inspector lists every file a graphic references.
    • ImprovedGraphics made by 0.6 from HTML show as Unsupported on the timeline and draw nothing; ask your agent to make them again. Alpha clips are unchanged.
  8. BetterEdits app icon
    BetterEdits 0.6.3 (build 23)
    September 23, 2026
Footage inside a graphic stands up, and exports with graphics are faster
    • FixedA frame of footage shown inside a graphic was laid on its side when the file carries rotation metadata, as iPhone clips do. It stands up now, in the viewer and in the export.
    • ImprovedExports with graphics are several times faster. Only the part of a page that paints anything is drawn (a caption bar is a strip, not the whole frame), frames are made ahead of the encoder instead of one at a time, and several copies of the page share the work.
  9. BetterEdits app icon
    BetterEdits 0.6.2 (build 22)
    September 23, 2026
Graphics drawn at the export's size, and the footage inside them kept HDR
    • ImprovedAn export draws every generated graphic again from its page at the export's own size, straight into the picture, so no codec touches the type, the dims and the gradients; the timeline keeps playing its small render. A page edited after that render exports as it is. The frames an agent looks at show graphics the same way.
    • NewA photo or a frame of footage inside a graphic is drawn from the file itself instead of the page's pixels: HDR footage in a card or a wall of thumbnails stays HDR and as sharp as the export, and looks the same as it does in the cut. Agents reference the file (or a second of a movie) instead of inlining pictures; the sidebar lists every file a graphic shows, with a way to it, and says which the app draws from the file.
    • NewIn HDR: a standard-range clip's white sits at standard white, where the footage's own whites sit, or, for a screenshot or a screen recording beside white type, lifted with the captions. The setting is in the clip's sidebar and in the document (luminance), and an export's notes name the standard-range clips left at picture level.
    • FixedIn an HDR piece, a cut to a clip with no HDR footage in it (a screenshot filling the frame) no longer steps darker on an HDR display: every frame carries the footage's HDR tags.

    BetterEdits 0.6.1 (build 21)
    September 22, 2026
A video's sound on an audio track, workflows for agents, and checks without an export
    • NewDrop a video onto an audio track and only its sound lands there, the way Detach Audio does: the picture stays out of it. Works from the Sources panel, a library window and Finder, onto a track or a placeholder, and Replace with audio or video… on an audio clip takes a video too. A video with no sound goes where videos go and says so.
    • ImprovedThe sidebar says when a clip is the sound of a video: the video's own frame with a Sound only mark, where the same file's picture is on the timeline (and whether it is silenced there) with a button to the video clip, and an audio track that plays video files' sound names them. In the timeline such a clip wears a film badge.
    • ImprovedAgents: a video file on an audio track is documented in the guide, and the app tells them it is the sound of a video.
    • NewWorkflows in the agent guide: step-by-step procedures every connected agent reads, starting with copying a reel. The original now goes into the video that copies it, as a hidden reference track, instead of a video of its own, and every timing is taken from the file. A Clone a reel starter prompt takes the reel's address.
    • ImprovedThe agent guide opens its graphics chapter with what captions, text and graphics each do, so an agent reaches for HTML only when the app's text and captions are not expressive enough, and the person keeps words they can retype. Agents are also told to read every track's flags (hidden, muted, solo, locked) before they edit and before they export.
    • FixedA hidden video track no longer lengthens the piece: a reference kept hidden under a shorter cut used to pad the export with black.
    • NewAgents check their work without exporting: mix --audio writes the mixed sound (or one track's) as a WAV in the timeline's own time, for measuring where a word or a beat lands; contact-sheet --against puts a reference file's frames beside the cut's at the same times. Agents used to export whole videos for both.

Graphics that follow the cut, and an agent that reaches for the right tool
    • NewGenerated graphics: captions, titles and anything else your agent designs are now many small clips on a track of their own, each made from a page it wrote. A graphic is tied to the moment of footage it was made for, so when the cut changes it moves with that moment and nothing is rendered again; only a graphic a cut landed inside says so. One change to the shared look reaches every graphic. The timeline shows each one as its own block, with a mark where something happens in it, and the sidebar says what it is: a layer made and managed by your agent.
    • ImprovedYour agent is told which tool does which job before it picks one. The first thing it reads is a short list from the job to the tool (where am I, read the edit, change it, find footage, hear, see, finish), every tool says when to use it and what to use instead, and the manual is read a topic at a time, at the moment it matters, where it used to arrive as eight thousand words at the start.
    • ImprovedLevels your agent can trust. The measurement of the mix now says how far each track sits under the voice at its own loudest moment, judged only on the seconds its clips fill, which is the number to set music by; a muted track says it is muted. An export answers with what the file leaves out: muted and hidden tracks, graphics that are out of date, and the warnings you would have seen in the export sheet.
    • ImprovedA wrong word gets the right one back. A tool that no longer exists answers with what took its place, a mistyped tool or option with the one that was meant, and an export told where to go in another tool's words goes there. The app says which version is answering and what changed for agents, and a session that stays open through an update is told to read the tools again.
    • ImprovedBefore a file comes in, your agent can see that a download is in a format the analysis cannot read (VP9 and AV1) and fetch it again as H.264.
    • FixedThe first clip of a sound track opened with a few milliseconds at full level before its own volume took hold. On a muted track that sliver was the only sound, so the mix read one loud second where there was none. The level a track opens at is now set from the start.

    BetterEdits 0.5.9 (build 19)
    September 21, 2026
An agent that remembers the video, and lands things on the word
    • NewYour agent keeps its own notes with each video. A folder called agent inside the video's folder holds what it decided and why, what you said about the video, and the sources of everything it built (what lands on which word, the page a set of captions was rendered from), so the next session picks up where the last one stopped instead of working it out again. The app never reads, analyses or shows that folder, and it holds text only.
    • NewAnchors: a sound, a drop in the music or a piece of B-roll is placed against the moment in the footage it belongs to (the word "you" at second 49.25 of the take), and the app works out where that falls in the edit. After a re-cut your agent sends the same placements again and everything lands on its word once more; if the re-cut removed the word, the app says so by name.
    • ImprovedYour agent's guide to titles and graphics says how to build designed captions: all of them as one clip, every word appearing as it is spoken, one typeface per kind of emphasis, the moments where the type takes the whole frame, and a plain subtitles track kept hidden underneath so the words stay searchable and editable.

    BetterEdits 0.5.8 (build 18)
    September 21, 2026
Sound that lands on the word
    • NewA sound effect is placed by the instant it arrives, measured to the millisecond, where it used to be placed by its loudest instant: a boom that holds its level for two seconds was landing half a second off. The analysis now says when a sound arrives, when it lets go and which of the two belongs on the cut, what happens inside it (the thump at the end of a whoosh is found by itself), and the gain that makes every sound in a library equally loud.
    • NewEvery spoken word knows where it can first be heard. A transcript's word times run late by up to a syllable, which was enough to make a caption or a hit feel off; the analysis measures each word's start from the voice, and captions, the transcript your agent cuts by and anything landed on a word use it.
    • NewMusic knows its drops. Where a track steps up to full energy, where it lets go and the breaks between are in the analysis to the millisecond, with the downbeats, so your agent can land a drop on a punchline or end a build where the hook ends.
    • ImprovedSounds can be chosen by what they are for. Each one has a family (air, sub, trailer, interface, foley, glitch, musical), a use (a hit, a build, a transition, an accent, an ambience) and a presence from 1 to 5, and your agent's search narrows by them: one family a video, and nothing that announces itself under a voice.
    • ImprovedYour agent's guide says how to land a sound, a drop and a caption on a word (a moment late at most, never early) and to use few sounds. Footage, music and sounds analysed from today carry the new measurements; send a file again to have them for one analysed before.
  14. BetterEdits app icon
    BetterEdits 0.5.7 (build 17)
    September 21, 2026
Edits that land on the frame, and folders that stay yours
    • NewYour agent points at things instead of doing sums. Every clip and caption bar has a name in the video's document, and a time can be said as "where the hook ends", "0.2 seconds before it", "the moment second 23 of that take plays" or "the end of the picture". Music told to run until the end keeps ending with the picture as the edit changes.
    • NewThe timeline zooms in until single frames show. The ruler counts frames, the arrow keys step exactly one, and moves, trims and splits land on frames. A clip too short to see is drawn wide enough to grab, with an orange stripe, so a stray sliver can be found and fixed.
    • NewWarnings before an export. When sound runs past the last picture, a picture shows for less than a tenth of a second, a stretch has no picture or a file is missing, the Export button says so and the sheet lists each with its time; a click takes you there. Your agent is told the same after every change.
    • ImprovedThe analysis of your footage no longer sits in your folders. It is a hidden file next to each media file, named so you would know whose it is if you ever saw one (.bettereditsanalysis); the visible files from before are renamed as the app comes across them.
    • ImprovedAn agent no longer analyses files by itself. Footage is analysed because it is in your workspace, in a video or in a library you added, so credits are only ever spent on folders you gave the app; the agent can still send a failed file again or correct a wrong reading.
    • ImprovedA voiceover is saved in the video's own folder from the moment it is recorded, with the rest of the video's media, where it used to be kept elsewhere and copied.
    • ImprovedExporting through your agent offers what the export sheet offers: HD, 2K or 4K, 24, 30 or 60 frames a second, HDR when the footage has it, or a single clip.
    • ImprovedEvery time in a video is a whole step of 1/600 of a second, which 24, 25, 30, 50 and 60 frames a second all land on, so two edges written as the same number are the same instant and no stray frame of the track underneath shows at a cut.
    • FixedThe app could stop answering altogether after opening a video with many sound files (several tracks of effects): drawing their waveforms took every thread the app shares. Waveforms are read two at a time on threads of their own.
  15. BetterEdits app icon
    BetterEdits 0.5.6 (build 16)
    September 20, 2026
Your agent finds the footage, and titles that do not look cheap
    • NewYour agent searches your media instead of reading it file by file. It asks for what happens, what is said, the words on screen, a song's tempo or a sound's shape, in as many wordings as it likes, and gets back the files and the seconds in them that fit: across your libraries and every video's own files. The index is made on your Mac from the analysis you already have; nothing is uploaded and nothing costs credits.
    • NewIt reads only the stretch it needs. Having found ten seconds of a four-minute take, the agent reads those ten seconds of the analysis, not all four minutes, so long footage is quicker and cheaper for it to work with.
    • NewSongs come with their shape, measured from their loudness: quiet intro, build, drop, break, and the seconds where the energy steps up, which is where a track wants to start. Sounds say whether they are a hit, a lead-in or a sweep across the cut.
    • ImprovedTitles and graphics the agent makes look designed. It has a guide to the craft that it reads when it comes to it (type, spacing, motion that settles instead of bouncing), and a way to look at a page over your own frames before anything is rendered.
    • ImprovedEvery title and graphic says what it shows, and is found like any other file: by that description and by the words on it. Their pages now live in the same kind of document as every other file's analysis; the ones you already have are converted the first time the app opens them.
    • ImprovedIn an HDR video, captions, text and titles are as bright as the brightest part of the picture. They were lifted only halfway, so white words looked flat beside iPhone HDR footage; now white sits at the footage's peak, in the viewer and in the export, and colours keep their hue.

Analysis that does not fail, and a queue that says why
    • FixedClips imported from some cameras (AVCHD among them) failed analysis as "not a file the service takes". The fault was ours: the app passed the camera's date on in a form the service refused. They are analysed now, and the ones that failed before are tried again by themselves after this update.
    • FixedSounds under half a second, the clicks, pops and short whooshes of a sound-effects library, were refused and told to be split. They are analysed like any other sound.
    • ImprovedThe analysis queue shows the files that were not analysed first, each with the reason under its name, Retry beside it and Retry all above them. "Everything is analysed" is only said when it is true; otherwise the queue, its pill and the sidebar say how many files were not.
    • ImprovedWhen an analysis goes wrong for a reason that is not the file's, the app tries it again by itself, twice, before it calls it failed.

    BetterEdits 0.5.4 (build 14)
    September 20, 2026
Sound an agent can measure, and edits that never go black
    • NewYour agent can now measure the sound of a video instead of guessing it: how loud your voice, the music and the whole mix are, second by second, and whether anything clips. It sets the levels, reads them back and adjusts, so music stays under your voice.
    • NewA quiet recording can be brought up to level: clips take a gain of up to +24 dB, where the volume control stops at +3.5.
    • NewCaption and text shadows have an offset and a colour, and the style editor previews a look on dark, grey, white or a footage-like backdrop, so a shadow can be judged.
    • FixedB-roll laid edge to edge by an agent could leave the viewer, frames and exports black. Every time in a video now sits on one grid of milliseconds, and an edit that cannot be built is refused with the reason instead.
    • FixedCaptions made from a trimmed clip no longer lose the last word of each trim.
    • ImprovedA file whose analysis is removed is analysed again by itself within half a minute, and files you drop on a video are its media straight away. No track ducks unless you turn it on.
    • ImprovedWhen we improve the analysis, analysing a file again is free: you are never charged for an update of ours.

Delete files from a video, dismiss missing ones
    • NewDelete from This Video, in the right-click menu of a file under This video, moves the video's own copy to the Trash. Clips that use it stay on the timeline and show as missing; a file no clip uses leaves the video altogether. Files in a library are never deleted.
    • NewRemove from This Video, on a missing file's tile and in a missing clip's sidebar, forgets the file and takes its clips off the timeline in one undo step. A missing file that no clip uses no longer stays under Missing for good.

    BetterEdits 0.5.2 (build 12)
    September 19, 2026
    Bug fixes
    • FixedThe app no longer quits when an agent lays pieces of a voiceover or a song edge to edge on an audio track: the edit stopped answering, and the app closed a few seconds later.
    • ImprovedAgents are told more: when no video is open yet, what the files still waiting for analysis will cost next to the credits you have left, which files you dropped on a video by hand, and when they ask a tool for an option it does not have. Times read as written (1.15, not 1.1499999999999999).
    • ImprovedMusic analysis keeps every beat of a track; long stretches of a steady song could come back with none.
    • FixedRemoving a media folder stops its analysis at once: files waiting leave the queue, files being analysed are cancelled, and nothing more of the folder is uploaded.
    • FixedThe analysis count in the workspace window no longer pushes the sidebar wider as its numbers change.
    • FixedWith many media folders the list scrolls, and the buttons under it stay where they are.

Titles that move, fades, and analysis that knows what a file is
    • NewAnimated titles and graphics, made by your agent: ask for a lower third, a kinetic title or a callout, and it arrives as a clip with a transparent background on a track above your footage. Move it, trim it, scale it; ask the agent to change what it shows. In an HDR video it sits at the same white as your texts.
    • NewFades: a clip's sound can fade in and out, and every cut in sound gets a very short fade by itself, so a jump cut never clicks.
    • NewA picture can travel over its clip: turn on Animate placement and set where it starts and where it ends, for a slow push-in, a snap zoom or a pan. Photos get their slow zoom the same way.
    • ImprovedAnalysis works out what each file is: a take or a finished edit, speech, music or a sound effect, a photo or a graphic. Songs are no longer transcribed as talk, pictures are analysed, and a sound effect comes with its peak, so an agent can land it on a cut. Prices are unchanged: video 3 credits a minute, sound 1, a picture 1.
    • ImprovedThe viewer uses its whole pane, so a zoomed picture is no longer cut to a narrow column.
    • FixedGrey blocks and a coloured edge no longer show around a clip scaled smaller than the canvas.

Agents, Pro and the Sources sidebar
    • NewOn Pro the app analyses every file in your workspace by itself, the video's media and every library, now and later, several files at a time, so the footage is ready before the agent sits down.
    • NewA dot on every file says whether it is analysed; folder tiles carry the counts; one analysis pill in the video window, the workspace window and each library window opens the queue, with Pause, Retry and what it all costs against your balance.
    • NewAdding a library is the one question: the sheet counts the folder's footage and says the credits before the folder is added. Removing a library stops its analysis.
    • NewA library opens in a window of its own: subfolders, the files by month with their dots, filters, and the file's details with a preview.
    • NewOut of credits holds the queue with a Buy credits button rather than failing; it carries on by itself once credits land.
    • NewAgents see the same queue, and can only ask you to pause, resume or add a library: the app puts the question to you with the agent's name.
    • ImprovedLarger libraries: the counts say when they are still being counted, thumbnails are bounded, and analysis runs in parallel.
    • ImprovedAdd to Timeline buttons are gone from the sidebar and the library window; double-click or drag a file instead.
    • NewOne magnetic timeline with video, audio, text and subtitles tracks; frame-exact trims; placeholders and five built-in structures.
    • NewWorkspaces of plain files: a video is three JSON files that save themselves; an agent edits the video as one document and commits it back as one undo step.
    • NewThe Sources sidebar: the video's own media and your footage libraries, previewed in the player, with files and their analyses moving together.
    • NewSubtitles Claude Code writes from the transcript of analysed footage, cut into bars you edit inline, eight styles with a live 9:16 preview.
