Three steps
Editing in a minute.
- 1
Download and drag to Applications
A disk image, a few seconds. Open it and drag the app onto the Applications folder.
- 2
Open it
The beta is not notarized yet, so the first time macOS may ask: right-click the app and choose Open, or allow it in System Settings › Privacy & Security. There is no account and nothing to sign in to.
- 3
Make a workspace, drop footage
New Workspace… asks a name and where your footage lives. ⌘N makes a video; drop a clip on the timeline, trim, caption, ⌘E to export.
What beta means
Complete enough to ship a video. Still finding the edges.
- Everything on the site works today; nothing is announced before it ships.
- Builds come often. The app offers each one by itself, with its notes.
- Your videos are plain files in a folder you own. A beta build never locks them in.
- Something broke? Write to us with what you did; it gets fixed in the next build.

Quick answers
- Is it free?
- Yes: the download, every feature, every update. No trial, no credits, no account. If that ever changes we will say so before it does.
- Will my Mac open it?
- BetterEdits needs macOS 15 or later, Apple silicon. The beta is signed by us but not yet notarized by Apple, so the first launch goes through right-click › Open.
- How do updates work?
- Once a day the app fetches one small text file from this site to learn whether there is a newer build, and offers it with the release notes. Check for Updates… in the app menu does the same on demand. Nothing else is sent.
- Where do my files live?
- In the workspace folder you choose: every video is three JSON files and a media folder next to them. Exports are ordinary MP4 files. Nothing is hidden in a library you cannot open.
- What does beta mean?
- The app cuts, captions and exports real videos today, and we are still finding the rough edges. If something breaks, write to us and it gets fixed in the next build.
