Intel Macs are not supported. The preview and the export rely on the media engine of the M-series chips.
Download
Download the disk image from the download page. Open it and drag BetterEdits anywhere you like; Applications is usual but nothing depends on it. BetterEdits is in beta and free while it is.
The beta builds are not yet notarized by Apple, so the first launch shows a warning. Right-click the app and choose Open, or allow it in System Settings › Privacy & Security. macOS remembers the choice.
Updates
Once a day, a few seconds after launch, the app asks the website whether a newer build exists. Nothing is sent but the request. When there is one, a window shows the version and its release notes with three choices: Download, Later, and Skip This Version. Download saves the disk image to your Downloads folder, checks it against the published checksum, and opens it; drag the new copy over the old one. Check for Updates… in the BetterEdits menu does the same on demand and says so when you are up to date.
First launch
The first launch opens the workspace window with New Workspace… and Open Workspace…. There is no account, no trial and nothing to sign in to. See Workspace.
Uninstall
Drag BetterEdits out of Applications. Workspaces are plain folders and stay where they are.
