One long recording into a week of short clips
A 20-minute screen recording or podcast becomes five captioned clips, each its own video, each exported, from one ask.
This is the job that pays for the setup. You record once. Claude cuts the moments, one video each, captions them, exports them. You post one a day.
You need a workspace with Claude Code open in it and one long recording: a screen recording of a demo, a podcast, a lecture, a stream.
Analyse the long file
Long files take longer to analyse and cost more, so ask first.
How long is demo-take-3.mov and what would analysing it cost?
Claude probes the file and prices the job. Video is 20¢ per minute of footage; a 20-minute recording is $4. Say yes and it runs.
If the recording is only voice over slides, ask for the speech type instead: it is cheaper and the words are what matter.
Analyse it as speech audio.
Ask for the moments
Say how many, how long, and what counts as a moment.
Cut this recording into five clips under 45 seconds, one for each feature I demo. Each clip should start at the sentence where I name the feature. Make each one its own 16:9 video, named after the feature.
Claude reads the transcript, finds the stretches, and makes five projects in the workspace. Each project references the one recording where it is; the file is never copied five times. Each timeline is a single clip trimmed to its stretch, or a few clips if a pause needed cutting.
Open the workspace window and the five videos are there as cards.
Caption them all
Caption all five in the Bold Outline style at the bottom.
Claude opens each video in turn and fills its Subtitles track. Ask to see them the same way:
Contact sheet for each one.
Adjust one without touching the others
Each clip is its own video, so a change stays where you make it.
Open the Placeholders one. It should end after "and that is the whole trick", not before.
Export the set
Export all five at HD, 30 fps.
Five MP4s, one in each video's exports folder. Claude lists the paths.
Variations that work
- Vertical for Reels: ask for 9:16 videos and Claude sets the canvas per video. A screen recording will be letterboxed; ask for a title on top to use the space.
- A hook line first: "Start each clip with the sentence where I say what the feature does, then jump to the demo."
- A series: "Add a text on each one, top, Strong favorite, with the feature's name for the first two seconds."
What Claude cannot do here
It picks moments by what was said. It does not know which moment looks best or which one the audience will like. Read the five titles it chose and swap one if you know better.
