A product demo from a screen recording

A talking-head intro, a screen recording cut to the sentences where you name each feature, the feature names on screen, captions, and a 16:9 export. Four asks.

A demo video is two files: you saying what the thing is, and the screen showing it. The transcript of both tells Claude Code where every section starts, so the cut is a list of sentences, not a list of times.

You need a workspace with Claude Code connected (see Your first cut), one clip of you to camera and one screen recording, both in your library and analysed.

Block it out

Make a 16:9 video called Launch demo with three slots: intro from intro.mov, then the demo from screen.mov, then a call to action from intro.mov again. Music underneath.

Claude Code lays out three named placeholders and a music slot. Nothing is cut yet. The shape is there.

Fill the intro from the words

Fill the intro slot with intro.mov from "let me show you" to "here's how it works". Cut every pause over a second in it.

Claude Code finds those words in the transcript and fills the slot with that stretch, pauses removed.

Cut the demo to the features

Fill the demo slot with screen.mov, cut into one clip per feature I demo, each starting at the sentence where I name it. Drop the parts where I say "um, hold on" and the two minutes where the build ran.

Claude Code reads the recording's transcript, finds the feature names, and lays the clips out in order. A 12-minute recording usually becomes five or six clips. Point at one by what you say in it:

The Export clip starts too early. Begin it at "and when you're done".

Names on screen

Put each feature's name over its clip for the first two seconds, top left, in the Strong favorite.

One text per clip on a text track, each timed to its clip. Ask for a size in points if the default is too big for a screen recording.

Captions and the close

Caption the intro and the call to action in the default style at the bottom. Leave the demo uncaptioned.

Captions on a screen recording cover the interface you're showing, so caption the talking head only. Then:

Fill the call to action with intro.mov from "if you want to try it" to the end.

Check it

Show me a contact sheet, one frame per clip, with the text on.

Look for a feature name sitting on top of a menu in the recording, and for a cut on a blink in the intro. Say what to move.

Export

Export it at HD, 30 fps.

The MP4 lands in your Movies folder at 1920 × 1080. For a vertical version, ask for a 9:16 copy. The screen recording will be letterboxed, so put a title in the space above it.

A captioned clip from a podcast episode

Turn one minute of an audio episode into a square video with the show's name on top and every word captioned, with the two speakers told apart.

This tutorial is written for Claude Code. Codex and Cursor take the same words. The manual lists every tool on Command line.
